Hello to you all. Hope life is good and you are learning from your growing experiences.
Monday we had a surprise birthday party for Sis. Spencer. Her husband planned it and tried very hard to keep it a secret from his wife, but I think she suspected that something was up but not sure what. We met at the the Shaklee's, who live next door. We did pot luck and Ricardo Villalonga, their landlord, barbecued his delicious steaks again. Pedro Aguilar and his son were also with us. As we were visiting we all shared how we met our spouses and how they proposed. Sis. Hall said that when President Hall proposed he asked her if she would be the mother of his twelve sons. She thought he was kidding (about the sons) and he said he was but though they didn't have twelve sons they did have twelve children and she said that with the marriage of their youngest daughter they got their twelve sons. This was the last night with the Oliver's as they were leaving the next day. They plan on making some stops in Kansas City, Michigan, Arizona, and then to Utah, to visit their children and see five new grandchildren that were born since they left almost two years ago. Elder Oliver is a very quiet man and doesn't say too much so we all laughed when Sis. Oliver said “As you know Elder Oliver is a man a many words” and that he was much the same way when they were courting. The night he proposed she could tell that he was really thinking about it and just couldn't seem to get the words out. So, she just said “Yes” and then he could get out the words to ask her. As we were ending our night together we talked about having a reunion sometime in August of 2011 when Lynn and I return from our mission. The Shaklee's will have to make a special effort to be there as they live in Oregon, but they assure us that they plan on making the trip. The other's all live fairly close to Salt Lake area: Hall's in Orem, Spencer's in Sandy, and the Oliver's in Grantsville.
Tuesday we finally got our Visa's back, but it was with some effort. Lynn asked Elder Garcia if it would help if he took him down to the immigration office to get them. He said that it would help a lot because when ever he goes there he has to take one of the other Elder's and it usually takes half a day, at least. So, Lynn told him we would be there at 8:30am to take him. I think he forgot because he was just getting into the mission van when we arrived and gave us this funny look, got out and went into the office to make a call to make sure that the Visa would be ready. The office was only about five minutes away but it took about an hour and a half of waiting but we finally got them. We wouldn't have been too concerned about it but we needed to have them before March as we will be making a trip back to Utah on March 8th for a week to attend our youngest daughter's wedding. She's our last to be married and we are so glad that it's working out that we can be there for it.
Attendance at the temple continues to increase. Saturday was very busy. This year instead of just assigning the outlaying stakes a specific Saturday each month to attend the temple they are also giving whether to attend in the morning or afternoon. This is with the hope that the temple won't be so crowded in the mornings as it has been in the past. This seems to have helped some but they still have to wait some for the session that they get a numbered card for.
We realized Friday that the registration on our car expired the end of January and we hadn't done anything to take care of it. God's blessings were with us. When I went into the Motor Vehicle registration renewal site I found that I could do it Online. We knew that there was a special form that needed to be sent in for an exemption from the safety inspection and emissions while our car is out-of-state. When I got to the section where I would need to input the information for the safety inspection and emissions it said “passed” for both and I was able to complete the renewal process and print out the temporary permit that gives us two weeks for them to send the permanent one. As I was wondering why it would say that the safety inspection and emissions had passed I remembered that Lynn had taken our car into Thomas Tire in August, just before we left for the MTC, for them to do a complete check up on it to make sure that it was in good working order to take to Mexico. They did a safety inspection and emissions at that time and sent it in to the motor vehicles department. I guess they are good for at least six months. So that was a really great blessing for us and our procrastination in getting it taken care of. Next year I have a note written on our calendar to be sure and send the affidavit in early so it can be taken care of on time.
We've been assigned home teachers and Lynn has a home teaching assignment but it's going to be quite a challenge to both have the home teachers visit and for Lynn to do his as we are at the temple Tuesday thru Friday night and all day Saturday. It's going to take some real planning to get the visits in on Sunday's because his companion is in the bishopric so his Sunday's are full and he doesn't get home until 7pm during the week and one of the families they are assigned to visit is President Cantu's family and he is also busy on Sunday's. I haven't been given a visiting teaching assignment but I do have visiting teachers and they visit during the day, usually the first week. It's so great to have these visits.
