Week 60 from Quito Ecuador

This was change week.  Monday was a bustle of activity in the office with missionaries coming to exchange companions and leaving missionaries ready to go home.  Elder Damián is one of those who left this week.  We will miss his warm, cheerful personality in the office. The mission nurse, Sis. Berrett, also got a new companion.  We will miss having Sister Moran come to the office with Sister Berrett, but I know we will enjoy getting more acquainted with her new companion, Sis. Chim.

We received another great group of 12 missionaries this week.    This group included 2 elders and 3 sisters from the US and 6 elders and 1 sister from Latin America.   It was a wonderful week getting to know them.  Tuesday they came very exhausted, especially the ones from the US who came from the Mexico CCM, as they had been up most of the night, with very little sleep.   Sister Richardson did some training on cooking and food safety while Sister Allred did training on general cleanliness and care of clothing and the president interviewed them.   They were sent to their apartments right after dinner to rest for a full day on Wednesday for more training.  These Mini-MTCs, as we call them, are proving to be very useful to get the new missionaries off to a good start on their missions.

I always love it when the new missionaries receive their trainers.  It’s such a special time.  The president has other missionaries who know the trainers to say some good things about them.  It’s a fun introduction of the trainers to the new missionaries.   One thing that was very nice to see was that a couple of the missionaries that we received from Venezuela a couple of weeks ago were assigned as trainers.  They are already proving to be a great strength to our mission.

The Browns will be leaving this next week to return to Texas after the couple of months they have spent here in Quito.  They took us to dinner on Friday as a thank you for our friendship with them.  We went to Pizza Hut and had a very nice meal and visit.  We have enjoyed getting to know them.  Even though they were not able to serve a formal mission because of their health they have made good use of their time here.  We will miss them but wish them luck in their future endeavors.
