Week 73 from Quito Ecuador

Our biggest news this week is the pre-mature birth of our newest granddaughter.  Our daughter, Brin, was not due until September but went into pre-mature labor on Monday morning and Cleopatra Michelle Coulter was born about 5am weighing almost 2lb. and 15 inches long.  She will have a long stay in the hospital as she develops and becomes stronger. So glad to be going home soon to be with them.

"Chloe" Cleopatra Michelle Coulter (klo-ee)
Born 5:00am on Monday, June 23, 2014
At home in Eagle Mountain, Utah
Weight approximately 1 pound 15 ounces
Length 15 inches
Gestational age 27 weeks

We consider the miracle of Chloe's birth and of Brin's quick recovery to be one of the great blessings of our mission.

This week was spent in continuing to train the Williamsons.  Sister Williamson is very excited to learn how to work with pictures and make videos, which will make Sister Richardson very happy.  Elder Williamson is picking up the Spanish very quickly.  I think we are leaving the mission in good hands.

Wednesday I was supposed to have a dentist appointment at 8am to complete the root canal that was done a month or so ago.  We waited until 8:30am but she didn’t show up, so we left a note and went on into the office.  Sunday she apologized and we made another appointment for tomorrow morning.

Thursday we had 13 missionaries arrive from Peru.  They are all from Central America serving missions in Peru and had some kind of visa problems and needed to be transferred here.  The Quito mission also received about the same amount.  They are here on tourist visas that will need to be changed to religious visas within the next three months.  This will give Lynn and I an opportunity to help the Williamsons prepared the packets for these applications.  If they have any problems Elder Nuttall will be here to help them.

My bed had some broken wheels and needed to be repaired.  Lynn had arranged with the one who does the repairs for both missions to come and see if he could fix them.  It would require some welding.  He said that he would be at our apartment between 7 and 7:30am.  We waited and waited and waited, ended up staying the whole day at home and then thought that maybe he meant 7pm but he never showed up then either.  We thought that maybe he would come on Saturday but that didn’t happen.  Lynn used a hack saw to saw off the broken wheels so that part is done. We just need to have a piece welded.  Now we need to find someone to do it if we can’t get this brother to get it done.

Saturday Lynn and I did some deep cleaning.  He cleaned the refrigerator and I cleaned the oven, which was in bad need of cleaning from before we arrived.  After spending most of the day scrubbing I finally got it mostly clean.  At least it looks a lot better than it did when we arrived.  I had put off cleaning it since I knew it would be a big job. We seldom used the oven but now we will be leaving a pretty clean oven for the Williamsons.

After we did the cleaning Lynn went on one of his long walks in one of the local large parks on a hill that has a lot of hiking trails and looks over Quito.  This time he took my camera to take some pictures.  Here are some of them.
Lynn noticed this street sign with the name of one of our special
people we knew in Monterrey, Mexico.

Just so you know we will be speaking in our Sacrament meeting on July 13th in our ward, the Granger West 4th Ward.  I think it’s at 12:50pm.  We would love to have you come and see all of you.
