Week 57 from Mexico

26 Sep 2010

Hola!  ¿Cómo esta?  ¿Qué hay de nuevo?

We've had a lot of rain this past week.  President Hall said that last weekend, Saturday thru Monday, we had over 15 inches and yesterday we had 6 inches.  It was raining so hard last Monday that the Halls and us didn't go to FHE at the Riggs, which was too bad because John and Brin joined the Neils and Riggs for a nice evening. The roads can be very trecherous when it rains a lot. I think I've mentioned before about their drainage system for rain runoff that just runs down the streets. That makes for some pretty dangerous driving at times.  Some of the roads end up getting damaged with broken up asphalt.  We went to the stake center for the Relief Society General meeting broadcast and right at the end of President Monson's talk it started raining really hard and our signal got broken up and finally went out so we missed that last little bit of his talk.  As we were leaving the stake center after the meeting it was pouring rain.  Lynn had bought a hugh umbrella this week, which was in the car, so he used it to help some of the sisters get to their cars without getting too soaked.  Driving home was bit scary.  As we went through several inches of water the power steering belt got wet and didn't work for a minute.  Lynn took it pretty slow, but we made it home OK.

Things have been about the same at the temple. Most days with a lot of youth and heavy 5:30 sessions but not many for the 7:00 session. It's nice to get home earlier.  Saturday we had 11 buses, which kept us busy but not nearly as crowded as a couple of weeks ago.

We had the missionaries stop by on Friday. They were walking by as we were getting home from the temple and came in for a short visit. It's always nice to visit with the young missionaries and feel of their enthusiasium and spirit.

Tonight we had our new home teachers visit.  We don't have President Hall and Brother Herrera.  Our new home teacher is Bro. Ariel Priego and his son, Omner.  He was in the bishopric when we first came to Monterrey but after a few months they moved and then a few months ago they moved back to the ward.  He joined the church when he was 16.  His wife, Irma, is a daughter of Juan & Alfa Loya Casanava, who is the sealor at the temple on Wednesdays.  The son, Omner, is learning English so he spoke some English to me and read some thing from the Ensign in English.

We got a letter from our grandson, Jayden, this week. It took over a month to get to us because the address wasn't quite right.  It makes a big differencer how the address is written.  We love getting letters and emails from home.

The MormonMessages channel on YouTube posted President Monson's talk before the day was over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbDRhuaj3ZQ
