On Thursday this week Lynn got a chance to do a little missionary work. We had a couple of young men who were students at the university who wanted to know something about the church for a class they are taking. The younger elders weren’t in the office so he got the chance to answer some questions. They mostly wanted to know about the churches humanitarian efforts. He really does enjoy sharing information about the church. Just about every time we ride in the taxi he will take the opportunity to share something. We made some cards with contact information on them that he hands out along with some of the churches pass-along cards. One time a taxi driver asked some more involved questions about the church that there wasn’t time to answer and he wished that he had some pamphlets that he could give him. But the pass-along cards have the churches website address on them so there is lots people can learn by going there.
Next week will be a bit busier. We have Mission Leader Council on Tuesday. We’ll be making pancakes for the zone leaders and sister leader trainers. I will also be busy preparing the Despedida video for the departing missionaries. We have seven of them leaving.
Friday the senior missionaries went to dinner after work. Several of them had been to a place called “Fried Bananas Restaurant” that they wanted to share with the rest of us so we all went there. It was a short walk from the church office building. The food was very good and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed the good conversations as well.
At church today we met a couple, the Browns, who have just arrived here from Texas and plan to stay for a couple of months. They tried to go on a mission but couldn’t get doctors OK. He has some heart problems and she had colon cancer. But, they have someone in their home ward whose parents live here but are not members. She wants to be sealed to them but, of course they will need to be members first. So the Browns are going to spend some time fellowshipping them and hopefully getting them into the church. They seem like a very nice couple. We’ve invited them to attend our senior FHE next week. He plays chess so Lynn may have found a good chess companion. He’s missed not being able to play chess. Sometimes he will go to the park where sometimes he will find men with chess sets set up and will play them.
